TL;DR – the combination of our no-code-required DataLogger Iot, plug-and-play Qwiic products, and Machinechat Jedi is probably one of the easiest ways to start logging and seeing data on a dashboard.

Convinced yet? Machinechat has been working hard on Jedi to deliver a superior IoT Toolkit, and has improved the product since its first release. As of this blog, we are happy to announce some changes that have been made.

Here’s what’s new since the original JEDI One:

  • Increased the allowed number of dashboards, charts per dashboard, devices, metrics per device
  • New: Built-in JavaScript engine for implementing decoders for custom data formats. For e.g., LoRaWAN data from Chirpstack
  • New: Built-in support for decoding Node-RED messages using JavaScript plug-ins. Allows Node-RED users to benefit from JEDI features.
  • New: Bi-directional Modbus RTU (Serial/RS485) and Modbus TCP support for interfacing with industrial sensors, data acquisition devices, and PLCs
  • New: Integrated support for LabJack data acquisition hardware. Essentially, precision measurements to actionable insights in minutes!
  • New: Support for millisecond precision timestamps.
  • New: Timeseries charts with support for stacked bar, and scatter plots for correlating trends.
  • New: Dashboard grid system for higher chart density on lower resolution/smaller displays.
  • New: Ability to set precision for each metric when creating charts.
  • Several bug fixes and performance improvements

The good news is that if you purchased a Machinechat Jedi license from us in the past, all of the quality-of-life updates described above free! This also means that the price of the license for new users has change to reflect the improved functionality of the product.

The OpenLog Data Kits with Machinechat are an awesome way to get started organizing and displaying your data on an IoT platform – perfect for prototyping ideas or as an intro to IoT! Or, you can take your IoT ideas to the next level by using machinechat and our DataLogger IoT, which automatically connects and logs over 50 Qwiic Products and Sensors!

Let us know if you have experience using the DataLogger and/or Jedi! We’d love to see what you’ve made, so shoot us a tweet @sparkfun, or let us know on Instagram, Facebook or LinkedIn, or better yet, comment below!
